Grace Brethren Army chaplain Maj. James Schaefer has been awarded the Bronze Star for his service in Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, according to a release from Larry Chamberlain, director of The Eagle Commission.
The citation, issued by General Olson and the Secretary of the Army, said, in part, “Major Schaefer’s tactical proficiency, selfless commitment to Mission accomplishment in a Combat Zone, under the most extreme circumstances, greatly contributed to the success of Operation Enduring Freedom.
Major Schaefer’s performance reflects great credit upon himself, the Combined/Joint Task Force-76, and the United States Central Command.”
More information about Schaefer and other Grace Brethren chaplains is available by clicking “Military Chaplains” on the Grace Brethren North American Missions website at www.gbnam.org. Prayers are also requested for the complete recovery of Chaplain Schaefer’s wife, Elizabeth, who is battling cancer.
In other chaplain news, Chamberlain announced the relocation of retired Grace Brethren chaplain Ben Collins to the Columbus, Ohio, area, and the appointment of Chaplain Collins to fulfill the unexpired term of John Schumacher on the board of directors for the Grace Brethren Investment Foundation, which Chamberlain heads. Collins has taken a position with Defense Logistics Agency in Whitehall, OH, a suburb of Columbus.
